Selection Process

The following standards are used for selection:
Scholarship –  3.8 cumulative GPA
Leadership, service, and character – as demonstrated by meeting service hour requirements of the previous school year and positive disciplinary standing as determined by the Dean of Students.

An invitation will go out to qualified candidates mid-September. It must be returned by the published due date (no exceptions).

Responsibilities and Obligations of Membership

Membership is an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that are necessary for selection. Membership will also carry a responsibility to the chapter. If our chapter of the National Honor Society is to be effective and meaningful, each member must become involved.

  • Each member is required to tutor 2-3 times per quarter. This is a part of our
    chapter’s service project.
  • Each member is required to complete one individual service project per semester.
    Projects will be offered over the course of the school year.
  • Each member is required to attend every meeting.
  • A 3.8 GPA must be maintained throughout the school year.
  • Each member must remain in good character and positive disciplinary standing
    throughout the school year.

 

Mu Alpha Theta

 

 

 

 

 

High school students in grades 9 through 12 who have completed the equivalent of two years of college preparatory mathematics and in addition have completed or are enrolled in a third year of college preparatory mathematics are eligible for membership, providing their mathematical work was done with distinction. 

Selection Process

Sophomores in Algebra II will be sent an invitation to join if they have met the following requirements in Algebra I and Geometry:

  • Honors—no semester grade below a B
  • Non-Honors—no semester grade below an A

Membership is an ongoing responsibility and it is your obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that are necessary for selection. If our chapter of Mu Alpha Theta is to be effective and meaningful, each member must become involved.

  • Each member must attend at least 1 math tournament a year
  • Each member must maintain the grade requirements in their future math courses
  • Each member must pay a one-time fee of $20 which includes membership and a certificate of induction.
  • Each member must remain in good character and positive disciplinary standing throughout the school year
